The Center for Advanced Light Microscopy (CALM) is UCSF’s largest light imaging center in Mission Bay, serving hundreds of UCSF researchers and local Bay Area companies. Join us for a tour, Q&A, and live demonstrations of the UCSF-built light-sheet microscope (SNOUTY), the TruLive3D light-sheet microscope, and TIRF microscopes. Using active research from UCSF scientists, we’ll show how two types of light-sheet microscopy help to answer scientific questions by gently capturing ultrafast 3D movies of living cells, while TIRF—an advanced imaging technique that uses lasers to illuminate a thin surface layer without damaging or interfering with the rest of the cell—helps to answer questions at the cell surface.
